Wool has a lot of good and delicious properties that we can enjoy at any time. There are many different types of wool, but they all have properties that benefit you in many ways. It is a very functional material that can be used for almost all types of clothing.
Here are some of the characteristics and properties wool has
- Wool is very elastic
- Wool has the property of being resistant to both dirt and water.
- Wool can regulate depending on temperature
- Wool retains heat well
- Wool helps improve the skin's oxygen exchange and respiration
- Wool has antibacterial properties (so it doesn't need to be washed as often, and can often be air-dried outside on a hanger
The key to these delicious properties
This key lies in the structure of the wool fibers. The wool fibers have different layers, each with its own properties that help make wool unique. The outer side of the wool fibers has a scale-like structure, which helps to create a membrane that is water-repellent, but through which water vapor can penetrate. The inside consists of a complex mixture of cells and membranes, each with its own different properties. An important property in the core of the wool fibers is sulfur protein, which absorbs water. These layers and properties help the wool to absorb moisture but still feel dry.
Since there are different types of wool, they also have different strengths and weaknesses. But the vast majority have the same good properties. The biggest difference between the different wools and their wool fibers lies in how fine they are, how long they are and how twisted or “curly” they are. The coarsest forms of wool are often used for coats, blankets, etc.
