Lambskin from Poland's largest tannery
These lambskins come from a tannery in Poland that was founded in 1988, and is a leading Polish company specialized in tanning and producing Icelandic lambskins and sheepskins for both decoration and clothing. With an annual production of approximately 400,000 skins, it is the world's largest tannery in this segment.
The tannery exports its products to several countries, including Germany, France, Scandinavia, Russia, Japan and other Central European nations, where they are recognized for their high quality and adaptation of Italian and Western European designs.
With over 30 years of experience, they have established themselves as a reliable manufacturer of luxurious leather products that combine traditional craftsmanship with modern design.
Icelandic Tradition of Sheep Gathering and Community
A heritable breed that, like most creatures in Iceland, has evolved in relative isolation since the Viking Age, the hardy Icelandic sheep breed is uniquely suited to withstand the country’s harsh climate. Sheep in Iceland spend the spring and summer roaming freely across the country’s lush hills and valleys – allowing them to find all the delicious fresh herbs and grasses that give Icelandic lamb its unique flavour. But come autumn, each of these free-range animals must be tracked down, rounded up, sorted on local farms and brought in for the winter. The annual sheep round-up begins in September and can last until early October.
Depending on the size of the farm and the number of sheep to be captured, it can take between one and seven days to complete the collection, which is why family, friends and sometimes even inexperienced guests are invited to participate.
And while it's certainly hard work, community is at the heart of it: Most fundraisers end with a festive fundraising party with singing, dancing, Icelandic schnapps and, of course, lots of lamb.
