What is organic wool actually, and what does organic wool farming entail?
Yes, that's a good question! The word "eco" itself and organic products and materials are becoming bigger and bigger and are taking up more space in everyday life. People think more about what they put in their bodies and what products they use on their skin. However, it is also often more expensive to go the organic route, so you want to be sure when you give the money it costs!
And how can you as a consumer be sure that you are getting organic wool? You can only be sure if you investigate and rely on the various certifications, labels and approvals that exist and exist on our mother earth. That is the way forward to be sure about your organic product, but unfortunately it is also a bit of a jungle to find your way around, as there is so much to keep track of.

Our organic throws are made from organic cotton. This organic cotton still has the same properties as regular cotton. However, it has certain certifications and labels that our other throws do not have. They have certified cotton from GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), which is the international standard for organically produced cotton. With this certification, we are sure that we are giving our customers an organic throw.
What is GOTS, and when can a product be called organic?
GOTS or more precisely the organization “Global Organic Textile Standard” is an international labeling of organic clothing and textiles. They help ensure sustainability throughout the entire production cycle to get the finished product. In order for a manufacturer to be GOTS certified, it is a requirement that at least 95% of the material they use is organic. In addition to this, there are a number of strict requirements for the processes in the value and supply chain, and also environmental requirements and requirements for social responsibility. So it is not just that easy to get approved, and thus become part of this organization.
Environmental criteria
Under environmental criteria, the use of dangerous pesticides is prohibited during the cultivation of cotton plants, and energy and water consumption is also reduced. All producers must have an environmental policy, where, for example, wastewater is cleaned and hazardous chemicals are prohibited. All chemicals used meet strict requirements for degradability and toxicity. Substances that can contribute to causing allergies or cancer are not permitted. Packaging, paper and cardboard must not contain PVC (a plastic material).
Social responsibility requirements
Under social responsibility, workers must voluntarily perform the work (no coercion, etc.), there must be safe and hygienic working conditions, and child labor must not be used.
So if you see the GOTS label, you can be sure that your product is organically produced and that the people behind it have also been taken care of!
